A fan that brings a spa-like atmosphere to humidity-prone rooms

Broan specializes in cutting-edge residential ventilation systems such as the ChromaComfort fan. In addition to being particularly quiet, it can transform the room’s atmosphere thanks to customizable intensity and colors according to the user’s mood.
Broan asked CLEIO to redesign the ChromaComfort connected app which controls the fan from a smartphone.

How CLEIO improved the ChromaComfort connected app

With our expertise in user experience, interface design, and development, we identified pain points and improvement opportunities to design a new app version.

We redesigned the navigation to improve the user experience

From the project’s beginning, our design team reviewed the user’s journey through the app to remove pain points.

Simplified pairing process and reduced errors

Our user experience designers added a series of questions to guide the user through the initial pairing. This allows the mobile app to connect to the fan and send the correct commands.

Based on the answers provided by the user, the app will identify the right fan model and use the proper connection process to reduce the risk of errors.

A wider range of lighting colors

The ChromaComfort app’s first version had some limits, especially in the lighting color choice. The user had few color options and could not remove those he didn’t like.

We have increased the number of colors available and softened them, ensuring that the color displayed on the app precisely matches the one diffused by the fan.

We imagined a user interface inspired by nature’s colors

The Broan brand image inspired our user interface (UI) designers to create the new look of the ChromaComfort app.
In its communication tools, the company regularly refers to nature’s fresh air. Our designers wanted to keep the same idea. They built a new sleeker design system that uses soft colors inspired by those found in nature.

A good technical challenge for our software engineers

Our developers faced a good technical challenge while working on the ChromaComfort app redesign. They had to develop an app that controls the fan without access to its internal operation details.

Due to the lack of information about the communication protocol to implement, they had to reverse-engineer the code to allow the app to find the correct device and send it the right information.

A more efficient app with every update

The new version of the ChromaComfort app, created by our design and development team, has corrected several connectivity and usability issues. The collaboration between Broan and CLEIO is still ongoing. We continue to work on improving the app to make it more powerful and enjoyable to use, as well as developing other connected products with their team.
